Wind Speed and Direction Sensors
PTC supplies a wide array of Solent Range of Ultrasonic wind speed and direction sensors (Anemometers) from Gill Instruments The elimination of moving parts combined with rugged construction removed the need for routine maintenance in the field. This makes Solent sensors ideal for operation in the worst environmental conditions.

Gill anemometers have been designed to allow customer selection of output rate, units of measure, analogue output scaling and averaging (where appropriate). In addition the Gill product range provides output rates between 1 output/sec to 100 outputs/sec with options of two or three axis units. Research grade units are individually calibrated and traceable to national standards.

Gill anemometers are used globally by some of the largest organizations in the world for research, aviation, agricultural, sport, transport and industrial applications. Gill sensors have now set the standard for reliability and performance of ultrasonic wind speed and direction sensors.

Principal of Operation of Ultrasonic Anemometers

The anemometer measures the time taken for an ultrasonic pulse to travel from one transducer to the opposite transducer and then compares it with the time taken for another pulse to travel in the opposite direction. Likewise, differences are measured between other pairs of transducers allowing calculations of both wind speed and direction.
Gill products allow customer selection of output rate (between 1 and 100 outputs/sec), units of measurement, analogue output scaling and averaging (where appropriate), with options of two or three axis units.

All Gill anemometers are tested and calibrated using facilities traceable to UKAS standards.
